Do you accept credit cards?

You can now pay your 2nd half installment or delinquent taxes online with a credit card at www.witreasurers.org or by telephone at 1-800-272-9829. At the prompt enter jurisdiction code #5936.

 

For online and telephone payments, you will be required to provide your parcel ID number (PIN), name, and amount to be paid.  Go to www.officialpayments.com to get fee information for using these payment options.

 

I lost my tax bill. Is there a way I can find out what I owe?

Yes. The Treasurer's Office can look up the information. Call us at (920) 386-3782.  You may also look up the information on-line using the Land Records Search Tool.  Type in your address and select your municipality, click on Parcel Number on the left, then click on the Tax button at the bottom of the page.

 

Can I get a copy of my tax bill?

Yes. The Treasurer's Office can produce a copy of the current year tax bill for a fee of $1.00 if you come in to pick it up, or $1.39 in advance if the copy needs to be mailed.

 

Can I  find out the amount I paid for taxes for any given year?

Yes. Our database allows us to look up prior years' payments.  Please call (920) 386-3782 for payment information.  You may also look up the information on-line using the Land Records Search Tool.  Type in your address and select your municipality, click on Parcel Number on the left, then click on the Tax button at the bottom of the page.

 

Can I pay my current taxes by mail?

Yes, payments can be made by mail.  Make sure the postmark is by midnight of the due date.  If you wait until the last few days of the month, we recommend that you go to the Post Office and have them cancel your envelope. When sending payment, please include the stub so we can apply the payment to the right parcel.  If you require a receipt, please send a self addressed stamped envelope.

To whom do I make the check out to?

Dodge County residence other than the City of Watertown:

The first installment or paid in full is payable to the local  treasurer. The municipality to make the check payable to is on the upper left hand corner of the tax bill.  The second installment or any payments after February 1st are paid to:  Dodge County Treasurer.

 

City of Watertown Residence:

The City of Watertown has a three installment payment plan, payable on January 31st, April 30th, and July 31st and is payable to: City of Watertown Treasurer.   Any payments after the July 31st due date become delinquent and  payable to: Dodge County Treasurer.

 

Do I still have to pay the interest even if I never received a tax bill?

We are not allowed to forgive interest for any reason according to State Statues 74.09(6) which states:  "Failure to receive a property tax bill does not affect the validity of the general property taxes, special taxes, special charges and special assessments levied on the tax collection of delinquent general property taxes, special taxes, special charges, and special assessments."

 

How do I determine what the specials are for on my tax bill?

Specials assessments and special charges are additional charges that you are responsible for, that your local municipality asked us to place on your real estate tax bill. You must contact the local clerk for more detail on specials.

 

What are the County Treasurer's office hours?

Regular business hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. 

 

Why didn't I get the Lottery Credit on my tax bill?  Is there a way of getting the Credit after the tax bill is produced?

If you do not return the signed form to our office stating this is your primary residence, you will not get the credit.  If you did not qualify in the previous year, but qualify in the current year, you can call the Treasurer's Office and request a form to sign and return it to our office.  A late claim can be filed with the local treasurer until January 31st and will be deducted from your taxes due.  After the January 31st due date, you can obtain a special form to apply for the lottery claim through the State.  This can be done until October 1st of the current year. What happens if my tax bill is delinquent?

Delinquent taxes are charged interest and penalty at a rate of 1.5% per month on the unpaid principal owed, beginning Feb, 1st, until paid in full.  All prior year delinquent taxes are payable at the Dodge County Treasurer's Office.  If property taxes are delinquent for 3 or more years, the property is eligible for foreclosure.  Refer to State Statute 74.11, 74.12 and Chapter 75. What if I forgot to pay my first installment? second installment?

If the installment of taxes on real property or improvements on leased land is not paid on or before January 31, the entire amount of the taxes remaining unpaid is delinquent as of February 1st.

 

If the 2nd installment of taxes on real property or improvements on leased land is not paid on or before July 31, the entire amount of the taxes remaining unpaid is delinquent as of August 1 and interest/penalty is charged back to February 1st.

 

Where is the Treasurer's office located?

We are located at 127 E. Oak Street, Juneau.  We are in the County Administration Building, the original Courthouse building. If you enter on Highway 26, go in the front doors to the first floor and we on the left hand side (north end of the building).
