In its role to promote wellness, prevent diease and protect the environment, Dodge County Public Health Unit has taken on the responsibiliity along with other publiic health partners, to educate and help residents of the county to be prepared for disasters, large or small. Our emergency preparedness training has been used to respond to local disasters like the flooding in 2008 and the large tire fire that occured in 2005. By continually learning from these experiences, Dodge County is increasing prepared to respond to disasters.

The Public Health Unit encourages all residents to be prepared for emergencies and disasters. The three main steps to being prepared of any kind of emergency/disaster are:

    1.    Get an embergency supply list
    2.    Make a family plan
    3.    Be informed about the different types of emergencies
that could occur and the correct response

It is also important to get involved in emergency response and preparedness on a local level. Dodge County has a Community Organizations Actiive in Disaster (COAD). This group is always looking for people willing to help in times of emergencies and disasters. There is more information on the Emergency Management website.

As prepared residents, help can be offered to families and neighbors to follow the three steps above so they are prepared for emergencies/disasters too!
