Kinship Care is care and
maintenance of a child who resides outside of the child's
own home, either temporarily or for the long term, with a
relative who could be an adult brother or sister, first
cousin, a nephew or niece, an uncle or aunt, or grandparent,
among others. The Kinship Care Program provides a monthly
payment of $215.00 to relatives who care for children for
whom they are not legally responsible. For this benefit to
be provided to the relative, the social worker must assess
the home, complete a criminal background check, and complete
an assessment with a relative caretaker.
